“Life happens, and it can negatively affect tenants, and when this occurs, the lease must be followed consistently and to the letter of the law. If you miss steps, you most likely will weaken your case if brought to court,” advises Fields. It is the landlord’s responsibility to supply tenants with size-appropriate garbage and recycling containers. Otherwise known as “check-in inspections,” these occur annually or a few times a year. Take pictures of the property at move-in, documenting any nicks, cracks, broken appliances, or other damage to the property, and report them to your landlord ASAP.

PIPR replaced the Index of Private Housing Rental Prices (IPHRP) and Private Rental Market Summary Statistics (PRMS) in March 2024. PIPR produces rent prices that are comparable over time (unlike PRMS) and publishes at increased geographic granularity than IPHRP. The Cost of Living (Tenant Protection) Scotland Act capped in-tenancy rent price increases at 0% (and up to 3% in certain circumstances) from September 2022 until 31 March 2023. Between 1 April 2023 and 31 March 2024, this rent price-increase cap was 3% (and up to 6% in certain circumstances). From 1 April 2024, temporary changes to the rent adjudication system restricts rent increases for existing tenants who apply for rent adjudication.

Northern Ireland rents data are not available for the latest two months. To produce provisional UK statistics, Great Britain's inflation rate for the latest two months has been used to estimate Northern Ireland's inflation rate in this period. In March and April 2024, UK HPI estimates were revised from January 2021 onwards by making use of price data processed outside the UK HPI's normal 12-month revision period. Users should be aware that revisions may be larger than usual and should note the significantly greater uncertainty around new build prices.

If a repair isn’t endangering the tenants’ health or safety, you don’t have to jump on it immediately. But you will want to tend your requests in a timely fashion to keep them satisfied and keep the relationship positive. Aside from the basic responsibilities, rental laws and landlord obligations vary by state. For example, in California all rooms require a window, but that’s not the case everywhere else. It’s your responsibility to read up on your local landlord-tenant laws. Before you bring in tenants, you’ll need to make sure your home is ready to rent.

Very similar to the move-in inspection, both the landlord and tenant walk through the property together, comparing its condition against the move-in inspection report. This inspection doesn’t need to be orchestrated ahead of time, as it is much more casual. The landlord inspects the outside of the property to see if any issues need addressing, or if it looks like a routine inspection needs to be scheduled. At the end of the year, any spending decisions should result in a positive financial impact on return on investment.

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- More properties are being targeted by squatters across L.A., turning homes into complete chaos. Here's what experts recommend for homeowners and short-term rental hosts. Upfront costs are the costs you'll need to pay before moving into your new home, including your down payment, closing costs, and other fees. Your rent payment is the money you pay to your landlord each month. An adjustable-rate mortgage or ARM has an interest rate that can change. Your monthly payments can go up or down with this type of mortgage.

You multiply this by your marginal tax rate to get your annual deduction. Generally speaking, this can mean $1,000 to $2,000 in savings per year based on the depreciation deduction alone. Tenants have rights, such as the right to privacy and not being disturbed, and you have to respect them.

While it’s possible to use a basic spreadsheet or general purpose software, it can make better business sense to sign up for a free account with Stessa to automate income and expense tracking. When filling out your rental application, telling the truth is always the smartest decision. If your credit is not so great, or if you left a previous rental on bad terms, the best thing you can do is to come clean and explain the circumstances. Odds are, your potential landlord or building manager has seen it all before. Landlords want tenants who have a steady income, a good loan repayment track record and a history of paying rent on time. Often, they will conduct a background check to assess whether they want to rent you their house.

Make sure your credit score is acceptable before you apply for a rental lease. In some areas, a broker may be needed to help you locate your new home. A broker, typically a real estate professional, packages all your financial information and submits it to the leasing office and/or landlord for you. They often have access to rentals that are not listed publicly and may offer a wider variety of options. In addition, real estate professionals usually know a lot about the different neighborhoods, local services, and amenities.

Your new landlord or real estate agent will appreciate that you are trying to keep them in the loop. Renting out your house can be a great way to hang on to your investment after you move into a new home. Figuring out how to become a landlord takes some knowledge of how the home rental process works. Here’s how to rent a house to ensure it’s a smooth—and financially smart—venture. These caps and restrictions will not be reflected in the price of new lets used to estimate the price of existing tenancies. Data collection volumes for Brent have been high in recent months.

Don’t forget to consider how the number of bedrooms for rent, amenities such as a backyard or off-street parking spot, and the unit’s condition impact a unit’s rentability.

To attract top-notch tenants, here’s a list of to-do’s before you put up the “For Rent” sign. If you do have a challenging application, a real estate agent can help streamline the process, so it might be in your best interest to seek one out. Once you find your dream place, the next step in landing it is to complete the rental application.

Amenities Every Decent Rental Should Have

Typically, Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and US Department of Agriculture (USDA) loans require mortgage insurance. A fixed-rate mortgage has an interest rate that doesn't change for the entire loan term. Your monthly payments will stay the same with this type of mortgage. Home location helps accurately estimate today’s interest rate, tax rate, home insurance cost, and the average home price. Note that the income levels apply to the 2019 tax year and are adjusted for inflation each year.

The average private rent in Great Britain was £1,246 in March 2024, which is £104 (9.1%) higher than 12 months ago. Average UK house prices decreased 0.2% (provisional estimate) in the 12 months to February 2024, to £281,000. This was up from a decrease of 1.3% in the 12 months to January 2024 (revised estimate). It’s common for some landlords to perform routine inspections of the property to ensure it’s in good condition.

“Picking the right tenant can make all the difference, and is one of the top ways to make your experience as a landlord a good one,” Laine says. The rise in Scotland’s annual inflation rate in recent months is more reflective of Scotland’s average house price falling this time last year, rather than increasing in recent months. This is known as a base effect, as explained in our Beware base effects blog. Scotland's average house price fell in winter 2022 to 2023, reaching a low point in February 2023. Scotland's average house price returned to mid-2022 price levels by mid-2023 and has since remained comparatively stable.

Step 2. Check your credit score

If your tenants don’t abide by the rules, then you—not the tenants—will face a fine. If you’re serving as the landlord, you should encourage tenants to report any maintenance issues as they arise. If they’re available only during weekday business hours and a pipe bursts on the weekend, you may be stuck with coming to the aid of your tenant yourself. Picking a property manager isn’t just about finding the one with the lowest fees.

Renting out your home can be a lucrative business if you do it right. That includes getting fully acquainted with landlord, property and tax laws. A team of professionals such as lawyers, accountants and real estate agents can make the whole process easier. While the act of renting out your home can be fairly easy with all the tools available today, you may need help identifying how to best protect your asset. After you’ve received interest from prospective tenants, you’ll want to screen them to make sure they’re qualified to rent out your house. Depending on where you decide to rent, the security deposit amount will vary.

Make a list of what you want

Before deciding to jump into renting, assess your potential rental situation. If you’re a reasonably successful self-employed person, there’s a good chance you’ll meet a landlord’s requirements to rent a home. But, generally, you’ll benefit most by having a consistent employment record. Obviously, it must be one that delivers an income that makes the rent on the home you want to buy affordable. Although landlords are hedged in by a mountain of regulation, nobody but they dictate their job and income requirements to rent a home.

Make a financial plan.

You may or may not have to provide trash removal for single-family units. In some counties, trash removal is rolled into sewage and water service—so if you’re not paying that, you don’t have to pay for trash removal. Landlords aren’t responsible for all outdoor maintenance on single-unit dwellings.

Use our guide to viewing a rental property to ensure you check all the essentials. Also, be aware that negotiating the price of a rental is completely normal. For example, if the landlord is in a hurry to find a tenant and you're prepared to forego that paint job in the living room, you may well be able to negotiate a lower rent.

UK HPI will now return to the usual 12-month revision period for future releases. There was a varied distribution in average monthly private rents across local authorities in England and Wales, and Broad Rental Market Areas in Scotland. Average private rent for Wales was £727 in March 2024, up 9.0% (£60) from a year earlier. This annual rise was unchanged from the 12 months to February 2024, but remains below Wales's record-high annual rise of 9.8% in November 2023, which was the highest annual rise since this series began in 2010. Housing costs include your mortgage payments, homeowners insurance, property taxes, and HOA fees if you have an HOA. In addition, you can deduct credit card interest that you’ve paid in relation to rental activity.

Download the app now to discover Rose Lust for a rosy-pink lip glow and Berry Bliss for a just-kissed, berry-pink tint. One thing to know about me is that I never leave the house without some sort of lip gloss, oil, or balm in my handbag. I’m constantly rubbing my lips together, and the feeling is just not the same if the product isn’t hydrating (sorry liquid lipsticks). I’m always on the hunt for a product that will moisturize and stay put for a reasonable amount of time, so I looked to one of my go-to beauty brands, Charlotte Tilbury, to see what I could find. Charlotte Tilbury Magic Lip Oil Crystal Elixir is infused with crystal ingredients and has some big claims.

NEW! CHARLOTTE’S MINI MAGIC SKIN DISCOVERY SETSKINCARE KIT

At first sniff, you’ll immediately pick up Cosmic Power’s top notes of black pepper and cinnamon bark, followed by warm, cozy amber accord and vanilla bean. Tilbury describes the spicy-sweet fragrance as “empowerment in a bottle,” calling it invigorating yet enchanting at the same time. On the outside of the morganite glass bottle, you’ll notice the numerals “IX” etched onto the vial, along with a sacred heart with flames, which is said to symbolize all-encompassing, passionate, divine love. If you’re intrigued by a mix of gourmand and tart notes, with a touch of floral, Blay thinks you will love this scent—no pun intended. She is famous, like Dolly Parton, for sleeping in her makeup. Her eyes sparkle as she speaks with the runaway, chatty energy of a hostess welcoming you to a party.

CHARLOTTE'S MAGIC BODY CREAM200 ML

It smells gorgeous – I think it’s like a very slight hint of caramel. It’s got a screw cap tube that prevents any spill accidents inside my bag or pocket. It’s a good packaging design for travelling and on the go. However, one of the biggest drawbacks to this lip oil is that there is very little product inside. I would say it’s about half full, which makes me question whether it’s worth the price.

Tilbury says, “I don’t want to see invisible women,” so her products make eyes look brighter and complexions more dewy, and are known for creating an intensely glamorous effect. It’s packed with all the good stuff like hyaluronic acid for lasting hydration, organic aloe vera enriched with enzymes, vitamin A and vitamin C. I also tried it over lipstick, because I noticed in one of the promotional videos that Charlotte Tilbury released, that the lip oil was demonstrated being used on top of lipstick.

As an overnight lip mask, it works delightfully well. Waking up to hydrated, perfectly conditioned and chap-free lips is bliss! I find that wearing this day and night really helps with the overall appearance of my lips. While I can’t say the oil has given me a lip filler effect, my lips are no longer as rough as before.

“However you want to feel and whoever you want to be, [you] choose the energy and vibration,” she says. ” asks Charlotte Tilbury to a small group of beauty editors and content creators in her London office. With the makeup artist and brand founder to be one of the first to learn about her top-secret Collection of Emotions perfume line—a project that’s been years in the making. Before applying the Lip Oil to my lips, I tested out the roller on the back of my hand.

Silva is reserving this sexy fragrance strictly for date notes. “Awaken your senses with magic in a bottle,” Tilbury says of Magic Energy. With top notes of bergamot and myrtle (a white flower), this earthy scent sweetens up with jasmine and cashmere, along with a hint of palo santo, for a sensorial walk-through-the-forest experience. You’ll notice a star and the Roman numeral “I”— both symbols that represent “grounding energy,” according to Tilbury—etched onto the vibrant emerald green bottle.

They look plump and in good shape, in just a week’s worth of use. I absolutely love the soft shine this formula gives to the lips. It feels instantly soothing and hydrating and makes my lips look juicy without being ‘over-the-top’ shiny. These UNIVERSALLY FLATTERING pinky-rose and berry-toned hues love your lips and make them look instantly fuller, defining the lip contours and delivering a tinted, mirror-shine stain effect.

NEW! PILLOW TALK BIG LIP PLUMPGASM

Not a lot of the product comes out, but the rollerball applicator makes for clean and simple use without any excess residue. But make no mistake, this is not a tropical scent adorned with fruity notes, like coconut and pineapple. Instead, it could be more defined as a clean, musk-driven juice that smells like the embodiment of an escape to an oceanside resort. “It reminds me of that euphoric feeling of taking a shower and resting after a long beach day,” she says. The world’s most beguiling makeup artist on beauty, stars, love, and sex.

I don’t think it can be compared to the texture of a lip balm or other lip products. The consistency feels like an opulent mix of water, oil and gel and it applies nicely to the lips. Since using the lip oil, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in the flakiness of my lips, so I’ll continue using this on its own and with my other must-have Charlotte Tilbury lip products for lasting hydration. The texture is really light and doesn’t feel sticky to wear. It’s really nice on it’s own and will make a great moisturising base or topcoat for lipstick too. Plus, the fact that it isn’t overly glossy means that men could use it as a nice flattering lip conditioner too.

Hi, I’m Hollie, and I’m passionate about everything beauty. Over the last decade and a half, I’ve tested thousands of products to bring you the best of the best! I also love bringing you fun and creative beauty looks.

I absolutely love the original Lip Oil, so I was thrilled to find it in two new tinted versions. We independently evaluate all recommended products and services. If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation.

Flip it open to reveal the glass, potion-like vessel, reminiscent of the “Drink Me” vial in Alice in Wonderland. I wasn’t sold on the idea that my perfume had these transformative powers. Thinking about my perfume collection, though, I do have sultrier scents I reserve for date nights and bolder blends I spritz on before I walk into an important meeting.

As its name suggests, Joyphoria, a warm, floral fragrance, represents the mood-boosting effect of vitamin D. The subtly sweet vanilla scent is all too familiar in my fragrance lineup, but with the addition of coconut water accord and ylang-ylang, it brings a welcomed tropical twist to my norm. I tend to gravitate toward comforting yet sophisticated perfumes that remind me of the California sunshine, but still feel mature enough to wear at the office, and that’s exactly what Joyphoria is.

It’s a nice little touch considering there’s no way to prevent lip products from landing on the tongue (and that I’ve tasted one too many irksome lip flavours). As for the amethyst-colored glass bottle, the color purple is said to symbolize balance and restoration, similar to the pull of a new moon, which is etched on the front with the Roman numeral ‘VIII’. Sitka Cruise Port Location, Things to do, Excursions

sitka cruise port

If conditions are right, there’s a chance to explore lava-formed sea caves. We work with reputable, local tour operators to offer you a wide variety of excursions to choose from, in every port you’ll visit. Sitka is definitely worth visiting if you are looking for a uniquely Alaskan experience.

Sitka (Baranof Island Alaska)

Tours of the Fortress of the Bear are often combined with a trip to the Alaska Raptor Center and other historic Sitka sites. Craft beer fans can find local Baranof Island Brewing Company beer around town or can visit the brewery’s tasting room to enjoy a flight of beer. When Russia sold Alaska to the United States on October 18, 1867, the transfer ceremony was held on Sitka’s Castle Hill. This small hill overlooking the harbor also commemorates the spot where the United States flag was first flown when Alaska was officially proclaimed a state in 1959. Initially settled by native Tlingit people thousands of years ago, Russian explorers settled here in the early 1800s and designated Sitka the capital of Russian America. Sitka is delightfully different, curiously quirky and one of the most special places you’ll ever visit, whether on a cruise or a land-based vacation.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

Jeff Budd will meet you at the terminal and take you on a private tour of the town while visiting many of Sitka’s historical sites and wildlife centers. Sitka Fishing Charters – Sitka is one of the best spots in Alaska for saltwater sport fishing. Several fishing charters offer half and full-day fishing trips for cruise ship passengers and often ship your fresh catches home to you. From the shuttle bus drop point in front of Harrigan Centennial Hall, you’re on Lincoln Street, the main downtown drag. There are a a couple of very nice upscale shops right across from Centennial Hall, opposite the harbor. Whether a cruise or a land tour, nothing’s cheap and this includes most shore excursions.

Where You Dock in Sitka – Alaska

There are plenty of shops in downtown Sitka, so be sure to set aside some time for shopping during your visit. Unlike other Alaskan cruise ports, you won’t find the same souvenirs in every shop. Most likely your large ship will dock about 6 miles north from town at what the locals call the Old Sitka Dock. There’s a complimentary shuttle bus that runs back and forth about every 10 minutes to the center of town. Is examined in a free museum on the ground floor of Russian Bishop’s House which tells the story of the Russian traders who built the town.

RSSC-Regent unveils Foodie Voyages for Seven Seas Explorer ship's first Alaskan season

This museum was founded in 1888 by Rev. Dr. Sheldon Jackson, who wanted to display his collection of Alaskan artifacts. The octagonal building is the oldest museum in Alaska and the first concrete building in the state. Constructed in 1842, the Russian Bishop’s House is one of the oldest surviving buildings of Russian America. It served as one of the Russian Orthodox church’s administrative headquarters to spread its influence in Alaska. Hand-crafted Alaska sea salt from the Alaska Pure Sea Salt Company makes an excellent souvenir, and you can find Alaskan herbal soaps and bath products at the Wintersong Soap Company.

Captain JuJu’s – Another seafood mobile unit, Captain JuJu’s is owned by a local fishing family and they cook up what they’ve caught that morning. Their truck is a pumpkin-orange color and sort of tucked away around the corner and across from St. Michael’s Cathedral, on Seward Street. This didn’t sit well with the Tlingit people and a bloody uprising took place. In 1804 Russian reinforcements stormed ashore in revenge for the attack two years prior. Russian forces succeeded in driving the native Tlingit from their ancestral home, to resettle on the other side of the island. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry.

Alongside Tlingit carvings, woven baskets, silverware, herbal soaps, and masks, you’ll find Russian lacquer boxes, nesting Russian dolls, and recreations of Russian icons. There are plenty of edible gifts, too, from smoked salmon to berry preserves. Spend time browsing the local galleries; this is a very creative community, and you’ll find original paintings, photographic art, prints, mosaics, and ornaments. Buying from a gallery supports local artists, but always look for the “Made in Alaska” mark to ensure the authenticity of goods. Like other towns along the Inside Passage, Sitka is surrounded by natural beauty and is a prime location for spotting wildlife. The town lies on the 100-mile-long Baranof Island, only accessible by air or sea, and covered by the dense Tongass Forest.

The oldest museum in Alaska also holds the honor of being the first concrete building in the state. Live performances are held in the summer months, with drumming and the chance to join native dance around the fire pit. Tlingit clans inhabited this area long before the Russians began to settle there.

The best time of year to get an up-close encounter with whales is between September and December. Unfortunately, most Alaskan cruises sail well before these dates, so you might not be able to see any whales while in Sitka, Alaska. But you’ll likely be able to see plenty of sea lines, harbor seals, and sometimes sea otters. Totem Park is the main attraction, with 20 hand-carved totem poles scattered along the nature trails. The Visitor Center can get you up to speed on the park’s history for inquisitive visitors.

An offshoot of award-winning Ludvig’s Bistro, the food cart serves Ludvig’s renown seafood chowder by the gallons every day. Slightly spicy, not too creamy-thick, this is one of the best chowders I’ve eaten. There are also freshly-made baguette sandwiches, an assortment of cold drinks and picnic-type tables to sit at and enjoy your lunch.

After various skirmishes, a fierce battle in 1804 drove the Tlingit back to the forest, and Sitka became a permanent Russian fort called Novoarkhangelsk, or New Archangel. A majestic Russian Orthodox cathedral was built on this site between 1844 and 1848 and stood for more than 100 years until it was destroyed in a fire in 1966. Until then, the church was Alaska’s oldest religious structure, dating back to the Russian era. It’s not a busy tourist town and it retains its’ small-town charm.

Castle Hill, also known as Baranof Castle State Historic Site, is one of Alaska’s most historically significant places. I highly recommend a wildlife tour with Allen Marine Tours while you are in the Sitka Cruise Port. With its location on Baranof Island and nestled in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, Sitka is a perfect spot for seeing wildlife.

This Russian Orthodox cathedral is a replica of the original church building built in 1848 and destroyed by a fire in 1966. St. Michael’s Cathedral requests a donation if you want to enter the church. If your smaller ship tenders in Sitka Sound, it’s only a five-minute boat ride into town. I hope you enjoyed reading this Cruise Port Guide and that it will be useful to you. If we’ve tempted you to visit XXX you can search for a cruise here..

When you embark on a cruise to Sitka, Alaska, you’ll find yourself nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the stunning Alaskan wilderness. Known for its rich Tlingit heritage and Russian colonial past, Sitka is a cultural jewel of the Last Frontier.

We also offer daily escorted excursions “off the beaten track” to wineries, castles, markets or to see craftsmen at work.

The chance to experience and compare the Provençal lifestyle of Arles with the Franco-German culture of Strasbourg. Explore Avignon’s grand Palace of the Popes and Cologne’s majestic cathedral, both Unesco sites. You’ll also lock eyes on the towering 2,000-year-old Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct and view the private rooms at Versailles as Marie Antoinette saw them.

Seine Experience the Normandy 2024 (14 destinations)

I defy anyone to gaze at the roof of the Hospices de Beaune on the Saône and not be mesmerised by its geometrical beauty, or walk the streets of Strasbourg on the Ill and not believe you’re back in medieval times. Sail the great rivers, of course, but don’t forget the little guys. The Italians call them tartufo, but to the French and much of the rest of the world, they're known as truffles. But whatever you call it, this rare, pungent (and highly perishable) fungus that grows under the ground in certain parts of Europe is one of the most expensive foods on Earth, highly prized by chefs and gourmets around the globe.

Imagine spending a week cruising the idyllic waterways of France on board a luxury barge. You’ll trade a week of the hustle of everyday life for the leisurely and gentle pace that barging provides. Cruising on these historic waterways allows for a deep exploration of the picturesque landscapes, historical gems, vineyards and more. You’ll be immersing yourself in French culture and history while savoring gourmet meals paired with exquisite wines and mouthwatering cheeses from each region. Every day your river cruise brings fresh delights to savour – local culture, cuisine, wine, architecture and immersion in the unique pavement-café bustle of French life.

Burgundy North

The Bayeux Tapestry is one of the highlights of this cruise with a personal commentary on the 1066 Norman invasion as you move along its length. The Cathedral in Bayeux is also worth a visit, as is that of Rouen, the ancient capital of Normandy. Claude Monet’s artworks leap off the canvas here, where you can wander the gardens that inspired some of his masterpieces. Despite the growing popularity of cruising, especially on large river vessels, hotel barging is still a little known niche concept. Cycling the long towpaths running next to the canals in Scotland and France is a relaxing activity that complements any of our holidays. Families can charter any of our vessels and enjoy a home from home experience while exploring the best of France’s waterways.

Centuries ago, early truffle-hunters used pigs, with their keen sense of smell, to root these treasures out of the ground… but the piggies usually ate the truffles as soon as they found them! Like the pooches you'll meet and go truffle-hunting with today at a truffle farm in Grignan… followed by a tasting of products made with this precious ingredient. Burgundy and the Languedoc region are perfect for our wine appreciation barge trips in France. A region of vividly colourful landscapes, wonderful gastronomy and a ‘terroir’ that produces world-renowned wines. Many of our cruises are through some of the best wine- growing regions of France, such as Burgundy, Bordeaux...

Canals branch off from the main river course creating scenic walkways and bridges, adding to the allure of the ancient cityscape. Explore the red, half timbered houses of Bernkastel and play spot the castle as you sail further south along the Rhine Valley. Similarly, part of the central square in Libourne is surrounded by the traditional arcades and is especially lively on market days. At Blaye, Vauban’s 17th century citadel is a military masterpiece complete with village and ramparts to explore. A visit to the D-Day beaches at Arromanches is soothed by walking around the harbour at Honfleur, with its narrow five story houses that seem to have been squashed together like the keys on a piano.

With that in mind, we searched to find a company to partner with that would share our values and our commitment to "do the right thing" by our guests... Together, we crafted a river cruise experience that was ahead of its time and inspired by the destinations we explore. Boasting almost 3,000 miles of canals and riverways to explore, you are sure to find the perfect destination for your holiday. Take in the history of the country, enjoy a wine tasting or two, or simply relax on a luxury river cruise. We have more destinations in France for you to choose from and other European destinations to explore, so book your trip today. See it light up painted Impressionist landscapes during visits to the famed museums of Paris, checking out their real-life counterparts in the gardens at Giverny and the villages of Provence.

Cruise Critic is not a booking agent and does not charge any service fees to users of our site. When you book with one of our partners, please be sure to check their site for a full disclosure of all applicable fees as required by the U.S. A week of fabulous food, wonderful wines, terrific trips, comfy cabins, cheery company and most of all the super duper staff. Come with us to discover the beauty of France and cruising the French waterways  from our unique view of the world.

You’ll berth at towns that reverberate with the names found on sought after red wine labels, finally arriving at the culinary and architectural box of delights that is Lyon. Nestled in the southwest of France, lies Bordeaux - a region renowned for its gastronomic prowess and world-class wines. Be treated to breathtaking views of lush vineyards, historic châteaux, and charming villages that dot the landscape. The Saône river cruise will take you along one of the most important water links in the country, which has proven throughout the years to be a popular boating experience. The river meets with many other rivers and canals, making it the ideal path to travel along if you want to explore France. We want you to be swept away by the tranquility of nature, become enthralled in the living history of the regions and indulge in the delicacies of the cuisine and wines of France.

Can You See The Northern Lights From A Cruise Ship? The Best Cruises for Viewing the Northern Lights

cruise northern lights

Stay, sleep and dine in our new, modern ships in surroundings that are inspired by the natural wonders that we sail past. Alta Amazingly clear skies and a location underneath the auroral oval mean that Alta has long been known as one of the best places to see the Northern Lights in Norway. In fact, the world’s first Northern Lights observatory was built here in 1899 on Mount Haldde, 900m above sea level.

Northern Lights also known as the Aurora Borealis

Our Northern Lights adventures encompass journeys across Arctic waters, in search of the Northern Lights in diverse countries and landscapes. To heighten your likelihood of witnessing this celestial spectacle, we strategically transition to different locations around the Arctic Circle, ensuring comprehensive coverage of prime viewing areas. Remember that seeing these lights doesn't involve a cruise director flipping on a switch.

More destinations to explore

Click the button below and fill out the form, our expedition experts are more than happy to help. Add another layer to your once-in-a-lifetime holiday and make the most out of your time in some of the most remote places on earth. In Antarctica, keep your camera on-hand for unforgettable encounters with penguins, seals and whales, and occasionally leopard seals or orcas. In the Arctic, prepare to  paddle under nesting bird colonies, past massive glaciers and around large iceberg.

Viking Inclusive Value

This is because Greenland’s population is tiny and scattered across small, remote communities, so it has minimal light pollution. Not many Northern Lights tours go to Greenland but our Northern Lights cruises explore using a small expedition ship which makes it easy to visit the prime locations in Greenland to see the Northern Lights. If you have a goal of seeing the aurora borealis in any of the destinations mentioned here, you are best off booking as far into the fall as you can find a cruise. Within the United States, Alaska is definitely the best place to visit the northern lights due to how far north it is. Other winter activities in Alaska, such as dogsled mushing and snowmobiling, will keep you busy and satisfied, even on days when you aren't lucky enough to get a glimpse of the lights.

Unlike much of central Europe, where you can travel through many countries and only have to use the euro as currency, the Scandinavian countries within the Northern Lights region use their own version of the krone. If you’re travelling on a cruise holiday to see the Northern Lights in Norway, be sure to bring enough krone for the amount of time you’ll be there. If the lights appear during the night, the crew will play an announcement over the in-cabin TVs (meaning guests need to leave their TVs on all night to hear it).

During sightings, staff circulates trays of hot beverages, like cocoa and toddies, to help guests stay warm on deck. Viking runs the itinerary multiple times from January through March in 2025 and 2026. Guests also have the option to extend their trip with a few days in Reykjavík, where Northern Lights displays are common in the winter. Havila Voyages is so confident guests will see the Northern Lights on Nordic sailings between October and March, it offers a guarantee. To see the Northern Lights, travelers need to be far north, away from light pollution, and have unobstructed views of the sky. The superb wildlife-viewing opportunities are endless in the astonishingly biodiverse nature reserves we visit.

Best Way to Witness the Northern Lights

As you go straight through the Auroral Oval Zone you will find the prime spots to spot the lights should they appear. This Overnight Northern Lights & Whale Watching Safari brings you closer to two Arctic highlights – The Northern Lights and the majestic whales. They found love in Tuscany, but their honeymoon adventure unfolded along Norway's spectacular coastline.

These Arctic regions, located near the magnetic poles, offer optimal conditions for observing the Northern Lights. Aurora Expeditions carefully plans itineraries to position their vessels in prime locations, away from light pollution, providing passengers with the best chances of witnessing the spectacular light display. Specializing in polar voyages, Quark Expeditions knows a thing or two about the northern lights, which is why the company offers aurora sailings each fall.

But you will increase your odds of seeing the northern lights by being in the right place in the Arctic Circle at the right time. Read on for our comprehensive guide on how to choose the best northern lights cruise for you. The direction you cruise off in will all depend on the Aurora forecast and the weather predictions of the current day. The Aurora forecast can help predict when the Northern Lights will appear next and if you are interested, you can check out the Northern Lights predictions yourself on a website or download an app to your phone. The reason Tromso is one of the best places to see the Northern Lights is due to its location in the heart of the Aurora Zone in the Norwegian Arctic.

On board our new coastal cruise ships, the emphasis is on providing passengers with spacious cabins. Our cabins are intended to be pleasant places to relax during the day and sleep well at night. Because Vesterålen is also a fantastic place to go whale watching at any time of year.

On nearby Torget Island, we plan to land and hike to Torghatten, a fascinating rock formation with an equally interesting legend describing the hole in the mountain as having been created by a troll’s arrow. Having made your way to Kirkenes, you will be met by a representative of Aurora Expeditions and transferred to our group hotel. Aurora Expeditions does not require passengers to undergo tests for COVID-19 prior to embarkation or during the voyage. We do not conduct routine COVID-19 testing unless required by the relevant authorities.

These 14-day itineraries cruise from Iceland to Greenland and back from September into early October. As the majority of the voyage takes place above the Arctic Circle, the odds of seeing the northern lights are high, especially as solar activity tends to peak around the autumnal and vernal equinoxes in September and March, respectively. And if they don't show, well, you still get to explore Iceland's Westfjords and Greenland's eastern shores — and that's a worthwhile journey in itself. Hurtigruten is something of an outlier in this group because it doesn't offer specific northern lights itineraries. But the routes of this coastal ferry company in Norway just happen to traverse the perfect latitudes to see the aurora.

The line has a variety of options to sail part or all of the way along the classic route from Bergen to Kirkenes and back, with the round trip taking 11 nights. Observation lounges have glass roofs and reclining chairs to view the Arctic sky and you can push a button on the cabin telephone to be woken up in the night if the lights appear. It also has a northern lights promise — if the phenomenon doesn’t appear during a 12-day sailing, passengers get a free week-long voyage. Known as the aurora season, the best time for taking a cruise holiday to see the Northern Lights is between September and April. However, the equinox months of September and March are the peak months for catching the aurora borealis as the magnetic fields of the Earth and the Sun’s solar wind are in sync then.
